Business that fills a calendar bur fractures a family, gift giving gone wild with excess, and what kind of birthday remembers everybody but the birthday boy? Friends, let's be honest - a lot of how we often do Christmas does not gladden the heart of God. But one custom we have God must find favor in. Whatever it takes - plane tickets, car travel - we do our best to be with family and loved ones at Christmas. Surely, seeking to be with family is a tradition that makes God glad, especially at Christmas. After all, of the many ways Jesus could have come to be our Savior as true man and true God, He did chose to come by being born into a family in Bethlehem. More importantly Jesus allowed Himself to be born into a physical family that we might be born into His spiritual family. "For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given and He shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father..." Now that's God saying to all of us, we can come home for Christmas to be in His family by the work of His Spirit in our hearts through His Word. |
